Malindi, Kenya – White Sands and Luxury near the Indian Ocean
Malindi is a major urban tourist area overlooking the gorgeous Indian Ocean. Not even the most cynical of travelers will have a moment to get bored in the area. With plenty of water-based activities, wildlife exploration outside the resorts, beach sports, exciting tropical landscapes, and relaxation opportunities – Malindi holidays are always promising.
Getting There
You can fly directly to Malindi from Nairobi Airport. Otherwise, visitors can fly to Mombasa and take a taxi all the way there. It might seem like a lot to travel with a taxi, but the trips are generally inexpensive.
You can also rent out a matatu (private minibuses) to take you there from Mombasa, as well. Otherwise, if you book a Malindi resort, you can arrange for them to pick you up at Mombasa Airport.
Accommodation
Malindi accommodation is not hard to find. Being such a prime tourist area, you can find all sorts of luxury resorts, hotels and lodges fit with all the wants and needs of the modern traveler. Dine and wine with authentic Kenyan cuisine as well as international foods if you so desire.
Lodgings overlooking the ocean are fit with spas, their own bars and cafes, as well as activity and fitness centers. When you get tired of swimming or bathing in the sun on the white Malindi beaches, you can relax at the massage parlors. Tennis, cycling, sea fishing, watersports, archery, volley, snorkeling and scuba diving are also part of the packages at these fine lodgings.
Otherwise, you can soak in the vibrant Malindi nightlife. Go shopping in the well-stocked boutiques and shopping centers, or just have a relaxing walk through the tropical gardens. Internet and satellite TV are provided for those who can’t disconnect from the goings-on around the world.
Malindi Safari and Activities
If the above activities haven’t impressed you yet, know that those aren’t even half the story. Malindi safaris could very well take you to the Arabuko Sokoke Forest, a paradise for bird-watchers. Baboons playfully swing around curiously watching travelers.
If you’re not one for beaches, you will enjoy the cool and serene forest, where elephants sometimes rear their giant heads. Hundreds of butterflies fly around the area adding to the mystical atmosphere of the jungle.
Want to delve deeper into the mysteries of Kenya? Then visit Kenya’s very own “Machu Picchu” – the ruins of Gedi within the forest. The great mosque (or what’s left of it) tells more tales of what has gone down in these parts than any tour guide ever could. Ultimately, it is up to you how you spend your trip, but this coastal treasure hasn’t disappointed yet.
