Masaimara Game Reserve

Masaimara Game Reserve

Masai Mara: A Land of Exploration and Discovery

The Masai Mara Game Reserve is one of the most unique and beautiful showcases of life on the planet. Hundreds of animal species roam the grassy pastures; some arrive to graze under the tranquil sun, while others lie in wait for their prey. The ability to view these majestic beasts in their natural habitat is unparalleled.

The mighty lion scales rocky outcroppings to observe his domain. Rhinos and elephants shake the ground as they thunder across the plains. Zebras, Gazelles, and Wildebeest pass through each year in the Great Migration from the Serengeti with hungry cheetahs and crocodiles snapping at their heels. Millions of mammals, birds, and reptiles make this sprawling reserve their home.

The Masai Mara Game Reserve is the largest in Kenya, covering over 1,500 square km, and one of the best-known wildlife reserves in the world. It hosts over 40% of Africa’s large land mammals including all of the famed “Big Five” (Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, Buffalo, and Lion), along with about 160 species of bird. The landscape is comprised of arid plains, grassy pastures and sporadic forests fed by the glistening Mara River. Masai Mara is a truly breathtaking look into the heart of Africa and offers a timeless vision of life on Earth.

The Reserve was named after the Maasai people who are native to this area and gave the name of Mara to the plains, which refers to the abundance of animal life and the gnarled acacia trees. They are happy to share their eye-opening customs and culture, which can only make one feel a greater respect and connection to the land.

Making the Masai Mara a part of your life has never been easier. Accommodation of all varieties features modern facilities and luxuries as well as incredible views of wildlife and fiery African sunsets from the safety of your lodging. Some of the unforgettable experiences you can expect are guided safari tours, bushwalks with the native Maasai tribesmen and even a hot air balloon tour to gaze upon the stampeding herds from above.

Whether your journey brings you to Africa for a taste of native culture, up-close views of big cats and other game or just a luxurious stay on the world’s most visited savanna, the Masai Mara Wildlife Reserve will leave you thrilled, refreshed and smiling.
