The Fishing Lodge Guest House, Aberdares hotelss

Location: Central highlands west of Mount Kenya. Approximately 180 km from Nairobi (via Nyeri) depending on entry gate. Distances from Nyeri: Treetops Gate 17km, Ark Gate 28 km, Ruhuruini Gate 20km, Kiandogoro Gate 30 km, Wanderis Gate 37 km. Distance from Naivasha: Mutubio Gate 50 km.

Accommodation: Set in the central moorlands of southern Aberdare the Aberdare Fishing Lodge comprises two timber cabins lying near each other. Each cabin has three bedrooms. Two bedrooms have one double and one single bed and one bedroom has a single bed.

  • Bathroom: Two ensuite bathrooms (hot water) per cabin.
  • Sitting room: Each cabin has a  sitting room with a log fire and doors leading to a veranda
  • Dining area: Each cabin has an open-plan dining area leading off the sitting room. There is also a dining table and benches on the veranda.
  • Kitchen: Equipped with gas stove, kitchen utensils, cutlery,  and glasses.
  • Provided: Caretaker, kerosene lamps, blankets, pillows, bed linen, towels, soap, and toilet tissue.

Park highlights: Spectacular waterfalls, moorland scenery, and colorful flora.

Activities: Trout fishing, (fishing license available at the Park Gate), walking, trekking, and climbing

Wildlife: Includes; elephant, sykes’ and colobus monkey, leopard, lion, black rhino, giant forest hog, bushbuck, buffalo, bush duiker, suni, serval, reedbuck, eland and rare bongo antelope.

Birds: The prolific birdlife features 250 recorded species.

How to get there:

  • By road: There are several gates into the Park via Nyeri (Treetops Gate is the most popular entry point), or via Naivasha, (the shortest route from Nairobi) to Mutubio Gate. The closest gate to the fishing lodge is Kiandogoro Gate (4 km away) but you should confirm road condition from Nyeri to this Gate at the time of booking.
  • By air: There is an airstrip at Mweiga Park HQ.
  • Roads: 4WD vehicles are recommended all year round and are essential during the rainy seasons.

Open: Daily 6.00 a.m.- 7.00 p.m. including public holidays. Note: no entry is allowed on foot and visitors will not be allowed entry after 6.15 p.m.

SafariCard’ required? Entry is by Safari Card only; cards can be obtained and loaded only at the Park HQ at Mweiga (close to Treetops Gate).

Accommodation charges:

  • In the months of April, August and December we charge Citizens & Residents kshs 10000, Non residents USD 180 for the whole house not per person.
  • Rest of the year we charge Citizens & Residents  kshs 8000,  Non residents USD 150 for the whole house, not per person.
